God is so good. This is the sentiment we hear spoken among our team during our last few days in Kenya. After a beautiful sendoff from our friends at Bondeni school we traversed the roads (and we use that term loosely) outside of Nairobi and down to the Mara for a safari. We pass the Great Rift Valley and end at the beautiful Sopa Lodge. We do not deserve such luxury.
For our team, going on safari was a bit of an adjustment from the world we had just left. A vacation destination is a far different world from that of the Mathare Valley. An important moment came during our team devotional Thursday morning before safari. The message was clear: God has created beauty all around us. His hand can be found everything we have experienced, from the starry sky to the faces of the children of Bondeni; in the hospitality found at Joska to the great migration. We remember the faces of many and recount many experiences.
Our last few days were full of resting, reflecting, and rejoicing as what startes as a team of 16 individuals is now one solid group. God is so good. Our travel back home is long yet without incident. God is so good. We are greeted by loved ones at baggage claim as we gather for a final prayer. God is so good.
The only way to end our time in Kenya is with the same verse that started it:
Philippians 1:3-6 NIV
I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Love and blessings,
Kenya team July 2012
