Who is the greatest?

Who is the greatest?

The accomplished? The esteemed? The proud? The beautiful?

It would seem so…at least by worldly standards.

When this question was posed to Jesus he responded by giving an analogy. “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will ever enter the kingdom of heaven.”  Later in Matthew’s gospel his own disciples were blocking the children from coming to Jesus and he said “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” (Matt 18:3, 19:14)

As our TPCC Kenya team walked the slums of Mathare today we were greeted by hundreds of fist-bumps, “how are you?s”, and hugs. It became clear to us why Jesus paralleled saving faith with the trust and love of children.  They ran from their shantis and grapped our fingers with tenacious enthusiasm.  In so doing their grabbed our hearts.  They are the greatest. Image
