Slovakia – 2014 Day One

Greetings from Tisovec, Slovakia!

Our TPCC short-term mission team of Scott White, Dan Veselsky, James Calhoon, Trey Jamerson, and I landed yesterday in Vienna, Austria–took a bus to Bratislava, Slovakia (where we connected with the Josiah Venture team)–and then drove three hours to Tisovec where the first ever sports camp will take place. Tisovec is a small rural town in the center of the nation that has some strong sports facilities to host the camp. Slovakia is a country of just over 5 million people bordered by the Czech Republic and Austria to the west, Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east, and Hungary to the south. It has a very small evangelical church of only about 10,000 people which means that less than 0.2% of the Slovak population are a part of evangelical churches. There is a huge need for the Gospel here in Slovakia. Earlier today our team had the chance to walk around the town and were impressed with how beautiful the countryside is and how friendly the people are, but how much you sense that they need to truly experience the living God and not just religious tradition. Our team feels honored to be able to be here to help launch this vision of seeing the young people of Central Europe become a movement of God in the nation. As I listened to the Slovak leaders share their love for Christ at dinner and our first team meeting, I was impressed with their sincere faith and deep passion to see others in their nation come to know Him and believe that something great is starting here. The campers will be arriving later today and we are believing for this week to be a transformational time in their lives. There will be a total of 45 people here at the camp so please be praying for God to move in the hearts of every person who attends. As we read during our morning devotional in I Kings 18:41-45 about Elijah praying 7 times and then seeing a small cloud only the size of a hand appearing, we are believing for this week to be the start of something big for God in this nation.
